One deal that never happened on Monday was Erik Lamela’s move from Tottenham to Marseille.
Spurs shelled out £30 million to sign the Argentine playmaker from Roma, however Lamela’s impact in North London has been well below par.
Much like Roberto Soldado, Lamela simply hasn’t settled at Spurs, and many fans question whether the South American will ever come good for the Lillywhites.
Italian transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio yesterday gave Tottenham fans belief that the Argentine international could be on his way out of White Hart Lane, as it was announced that Ligue 1 side Marseille were in advanced talks with Spurs for the 23-year-old.
But the deal never came to fruition. Why?
L’Equipe have today tried to fill in the blanks, and they’ve posted the blame of the deal never happening at Tottenham’s door. According to L’Equipe, Spurs backed out of the deal as they failed to find a replacement for Lamela.
L’Equipe say that Spurs were targetting West Brom’s Saido Berahino to replace Lamela.
So has Daniel Levy ballsed it up? Why do Spurs always wait until the very last minute to do business?
