The transfer window in Spain maybe closed, but the David De Gea saga is not over.
De Gea’s move from Man United to Real Madrid suffered a spectacular implosion late last night, when news filtered through that Real Madrid had failed to lodge their paperwork in time in order to seal the deal for the Spanish stopper.
Radio station Cadena SER reported that the required documents did not arrive with the Spanish authorities on time. As such, De Gea is staying put at Manchester United while Keylor Navas will continue to play for Real Madrid.
Tuesday morning, however, has started with a twist.
AS are reporting Real Madrid’s contention that they DID file the De Gea papers in time: 23.59 to be precise.
The Spanish authorities insist the documents did not arrive until 00:28 Tuesday morning.
AS say Real Madrid believe they can “prove” the transfer was in order, and Marca have announced that Los Blancos are planning to appeal the decision not to allow De Gea to join.
At the time of writing, the whole situation seems to be incredibly messy, and it’s wholly unclear how all the chips will fall.
