Even Louis van Gaal, a coach who has seen everything in football, seemed to be in two minds of how to react to Anthony Martial’s debut goal for Manchester United against Liverpool.
United were pegged back to just 2-1 up on 84 minutes thanks to a wonder goal from Christian Benteke.
Anthony Martial had been introduced midway through the second half and a couple of minutes later the young Frenchman scored a solo special to make it 3-1 and win the game.
After Brendan Rodgers’ post-match thoughts on the video above, Louis van Gaal discusses the Martial goal.
LVG speaks about Martial from the 2:10 mark and whilst he describes the goal as “fantastic,” the Dutch coach does play all the hype down a little bit and explains why he brought him on when he did.
