Morgan Schneiderlin: Man United’s captain had no idea who Anthony Martial was (Video)

Morgan Schneiderlin revealed on French TV on Monday that Wayne Rooney had never heard of Anthony Martial before yesterday.

Martial is poised to join Man United from Monaco today, in one of the biggest shock deals of the transfer window.

Man United are set to shell out around 35 million pounds on the relatively unknown forward from Ligue 1.

Schneiderlin, who is currently away on French national duty, yesterday told reporters that Rooney got in touch with him to ask who his new strike partner is. Schneiderlin said:

To be honest, yesterday [Sunday] on the plane, Wayne Rooney came to speak to me and asked me who Martial was, because the English press had started to speak.

I told him he’s a great player with great potential, who has played some good matches with Monaco last season and the the beginning of this.

I told him he is technical and powerful. A little like Thierry Henry, even if it’s the press who are making that comparison.
