Tottenham vs FK Qarabag team news: Heung-min Son preferred to Harry Kane up front

FootballSportTottenhamSAM LONG

Heung-min Son has been preferred to Harry Kane up front for Tottenham's opening Europa League group game against FK Qarabag at White Hart Lane.

The South Korea international made his full debut against Sunderland last weekend but has now been given an opportunity to prove his worth in front of a home crowd.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has chosen an experimental side with both Kevin Wimmer and Kieran Trippier included in the back four.

Erik Lamela and Andros Townsend both impressed at the Stadium of Light and the pair have been rewarded with a start against the Azerbaijani minnows.

What they're saying

Mauricio Pochettino: "This is a good team, a team that play in a good way with a good philosophy. They pushed Celtic all the way," he told the club's website.

“They always try to play from the back, on the floor and are a dynamic and aggressive team in offensive situations. We need to have the right mentality for this game and we’re ready to compete.

“That’s our objective. We need to win because this group stage is difficult with Qarabag, Anderlecht and Monaco. It’s important to win at home. We respect Qarabag, We will play with aggression.”

Gurban Gurbanov: "The team is very enthusiastic and we will try to please the fans of Azerbaijan football and demonstrate we are one of the best teams.

"Tottenham have an Argentinian coach and he worked for many years in Spain. Therefore I don't think that Tottenham play English football and we will most likely see a blend of English and Spanish football."
