When does the transfer window close? All you need to know about deadline day

FootballPremier LeagueTransfer NewsSAM LONG

Deadline day is looming large and Premier League clubs have just hours left to finalise their business before the transfer window closes.

Plenty of business is expected to be conducted during the remaining frantic moments as managers make a last ditch attempt to plug their leaky defence or finally tie up a deal for the prolific striker that they have tracked all summer.

This summer's transfer window closes on Tuesday 1 September at 6pm - a day later than usual due to Monday's Bank Holiday. The deadline is the same for Football League clubs and Scotland will continue to do business until midnight.

But, with clubs constantly pushing the boundaries as they attempt to get moves over the line, news of completed transfers often filters through hours after the official closure.

England's top flight may be set to benefit from a small extension due to the Bank Holiday but the majority of the continent's major leagues will slam their respective windows shut 18 hours earlier.

The transfer window will close on Monday 31 August at 23:59 in France, Spain, Russia and the Netherlands, while Italy's will shut one hour earlier.

Germany's transfer window is due to shut even earlier on Monday 31 August at 6pm (BST).

However, if a Premier League club wishes to buy a player that is owned by a team from any of the previously mentioned countries they will still be able to do so.

Meanwhile, the mavericks over in Portugal have almost one month left to tie up any further business as their window does not shut until 22 September.
