De Gea transfer delayed by Keylor Navas uncertainty over move to Man United (AS)

Part of the reason for the delay in the transfer of David De Gea from Manchester United to Real Madrid was the skepticism of the goalkeeper going the other way.

Spanish newspaper AS report that the De Gea part of the deal had been agreed well before the Navas part with the Costa Rican initially not keen on a switch to Old Trafford.

De Gea was all set to go to the Bernabeu in a deal worth €30 million, while Navas was being talked into a €15m transfer to United, modifying personal terms.

Apparently he spoke to van Gaal and the charismatic Dutchman eventually made him see the light. But it took a while and that contributed to the deal missing out on an all-important stamp.

While Navas and De Gea were technically separate transfers, the two were dependent on one another to occur in order to be completed.

Both clubs are blaming one another for not getting the documents through but various journalists are writing that Madrid didn’t get the documents to the LFP on time so the blame lies at their doorstep. However, there’s miles to run on this.

Expect the deal to be completed tomorrow.
