Jose Mourinho has told the Chelsea board not to make rash decisions in the transfer market following their poor start to the Premier League campaign.

The Blues trail leaders Manchester City by eight points already following Saturday’s defeat to Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge, as Mourinho admitted after the match that, in any other league, they would be out of the title race.

Four points from their opening four matches sees Chelsea sit in 13th spot with less than 72 hours remaining of the summer transfer window.

But Mouirnho has warned the club against making last-minute changes to the squad, insisting that it is his responsibility to perform better.

"I hope this does not prompt us to the transfer market. I don't like that," Mourinho told reporters.

"I gave my club the report of the season projection on April 21. I don't think it's now on August 29 or 30 that I am going to say 'I want this' or 'I want that'.

"We have to do better. Me and the players have to do better.
