Chelsea are closing in on Pedro's signature, who was previously a Manchester United target, thanks to the influence of Jose Mourinho and Cesc Fabregas' girlfriend.
The Barcelona forward is on the brink of a move to Stamford Bridge after travelling to west London for a medical on Wednesday afternoon, following United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward's failure to finalise a deal for the 28-year-old.
While Woodward was in Spain negotiating with the Spanish club, Fabregas' girlfriend Daniella Semaan contacted Pedro's wife, Carolina Martin, to discuss the possibility of moving to London.
Fabregas remains good friends with Pedro, having played with his countryman extensively both at the Camp Nou and with the Spanish national side, while Semaan also knows Martin well.
Fabregas and Semaan, along with Blues boss Mourinho and director Marina Granovskaia, successfully persuaded Pedro to reject the Red Devils' advances in favour of a move to the Premier League champions.
United cited an inability to agree a fee for Pedro as the reason why their move for the Spaniard's signature faltered but his wife's friendship with Fabregas' other half has helped to sway his decision.
Pedro scored six goals in 35 La Liga appearances last season and is in line to become Chelsea's fitfh permanent signing of the summer.
