Who’d have thought that in a team with the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar, Thomas Vermaelen would be Barcelona’s hero in a football match.
29-year-old Belgian centre-half Vermaelen came to the Catalans rescue in La Liga against Malaga on Saturday night, when the former Arsenal man broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute.
After Barca had failed to break down their visitors in a frustrating match, Vermaelen came up trumps with a sweet strike in box for his first goal since joining from the Gunners.
