Neymar to Miss European Super Cup, Spanish Super Cup Finals
Sunday, August 9
The star forward is set to miss two weeks with mumps, per Barcelona's official website. His diagnosis came as a bit of a surprise, as he had previously been vaccinated against the disease.
The 23-year-old has emerged as one of the biggest stars in all of football in the past few years and is part of arguably the best attacking threesome in the world. Paddy Power certainly thinks no one can match the trio of Neymar, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez:
Neymar has been relatively healthy during his short career, the notable exception being the back injury that saw him miss out on the semi-final of the 2014 World Cup against Germany. Since then, he's only suffered minor knocks, per Transfermarkt.
A winger by trade, the Brazil international has the freedom to roam inside as much as he wants with the Blaugrana, taking advantage of the passing brilliance of Messi and deadly instincts of Suarez. Between those three, defenders don't know where to look first, opening up acres of space as the defence desperately tries to identify the main threat.
The Catalans have the talent to survive an injury to one of their three stars, although none of the available options off the bench offer the same scoring threat and flair as Neymar does. Rafinha is a likely candidate to replace the Brazilian, while Munir El Haddadi could also see an increase in minutes.
